The Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP and the Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne today announced the next significant step in the building of Australia’s Future Submarines with the signing of the contract between the Government and DCNS to commence the design phase of the Program.

The Turnbull Government must ensure Victoria gets a fair share of the work to deliver Australia’s new submarine fleet.

Minister for Industry Lily D’Ambrosio today congratulated French company DCNS on being selected as the preferred designer for the $50 billion Future Submarines project and called on Malcolm Turnbull to ensure Victoria is heavily involved in a national approach to the design and build. Ms D’Ambrosio has held talks with DCNS prior to the announcement about Victoria’s potential involvement in the Future Submarine Program, which would create hundreds of local jobs.

The Australian Industry and Defence Network – Victoria (AIDN-Vic) and the Victorian Defence Alliance – Submarines (VDA-Submarines) welcome today’s announcement that DCNS has been selected as the international partner to assist with the design and build of Australia’s future submarine.

Future submarine program

The Turnbull Government today announces that the next generation of submarines for Australia will be constructed at the Adelaide shipyard, securing thousands of jobs and ensuring the project will play a key part in the transition of our economy.
DCNS of France has been selected as our preferred international partner for the design of the 12 Future Submarines, subject to further discussions on commercial matters.
