Aviation SME and VDA member Aquila Engineering has become just the third company in Australia to successfully achieve CASA Subpart 21.J Approved Design Organisation (ADO) accreditation.
VDA member company Australian Aerospace Engineering Pty Ltd (AAE) recently became the first company in Australia to achieve certification to the latest revision of all three AS9100 Aerospace Standards.
AAE Engineering Manager, Adam Johnston said it was a significant achievement that would help the business grow.
Through the advice and guidance of the Centre for Defence Industry Capability and its national network of Business Improvement Advisers, AAE become the first company in Australia to achieve certification to the latest revision of all three Aerospace Standards namely AS9100D, AS9110C and AS9120B.
AAE now meets all relevant quality requirements for doing business directly with Defence and partnering with defence ‘primes’.
AAE is a 100% Australian owned and operated business located in Albury, NSW. The company serves the commercial and defence aviation industry with engineering, CASA Part 145 maintenance, and CASA Part 21G manufacturing services. The company also distributes aerospace and military-specific hardware.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has announced a new research agreement with VDA Aerospace member Chemring Australia to explore innovative technologies for protecting Australian Defence Force aircraft against missile threats.
Minister Pyne said this five-year agreement with Chemring Australia was signed in Adelaide as part of the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group Partnerships Week, and was a big step towards improving the countermeasures deployed to protect our aircraft.
“Chemring Australia and DST Group will explore capabilities and advanced techniques for the manufacture of high performance countermeasures that hide aircraft from radar detection and deflect heat-seeking missiles,” Minister Pyne said.
“The research will also examine the use of more efficient manufacturing technologies, such as resonant acoustic mixing, and novel concepts for pyrotechnic device.
“This partnership will allow the development of an advanced flare capability to provide protection against increasingly sophisticated missile systems.
“I welcome these agreements which are designed to give Defence a capability edge. Chemring Australia specialises in the manufacture of countermeasures, sensors, and energetic systems.”
